Jos 24:2 And
Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the
Lord God of Israel: ‘Your fathers,
including Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, dwelt on the
other side of the River in old times; and they served other gods."
God called Abraham out from his Chaldean
family in Ur, who were idolaters. After the death of idolater Terah at Haran,
God sent Abraham into the Promised Canaan land. At that time the descendents of
Ham (Ham - in Hebrew means black in colour) dwelled in Canaan, Egypt and the
rest of Africa.
Gen 11:28 And
Haran died before his father Terah in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
God called
Abraham a Hebrew
Gen 14:13 Then
one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, for he dwelt by the
terebinth trees of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner;
and they were allies with Abram.
Abraham and Lot were monotheists, God
fearing and righteous. God called them Hebrews instead of Chaldeans, who were
idolaters.
2 Pet 2:7-8 and
delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked
(for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from
day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)—
Our Faithful
Lord God Almighty
Genesis 12:1,
4a Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show
you... So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him.
All those who believed God and left Ur were
blessed by being called Hebrews. The descendants of Abraham and Lot were all
given land as He promised them when He took them out of Ur.
1. Ishmail -
the eldest son of Abraham from Hagar inherited the desert land and wilderness
of the Arabian Peninsula. He is the ancestor of the Arab race.
Note Those
given land in Canaan had to dispose of the giants (human hybrid just like those
in Noah's time) dwelling there.
2. Esau -
Isaac's eldest son who sold his birthright was given the land of Seir
Deu 2:22 just
as He had done for the descendants of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, when He
destroyed the Horites from before them. They dispossessed them and dwelt in their
place, even to this day.
3. Moab - Lot's
eldest son inherited the land of Ar
Deu 2:9-10 Then
the Lord said to me, ‘Do not harass
Moab, nor contend with them in battle, for I will not give you any of their
land as a possession, because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as a
possession.’
4. Ben-Ammi -
Lot's youngest son, the ancestor of the people of Ammon
Deu 2:19 And
when you come near the people of Ammon, do not harass them or meddle with them,
for I will not give you any of the land of the people of Ammon as a possession,
because I have given it to the descendants of Lot as a possession.’
5. Jacob or Israel
- the ancestor of the Israelites.
Gen 43:32 So
they set him a place by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians who
ate with him by themselves; because the Egyptians could not eat food with the
Hebrews, for that is an abomination to the Egyptians.
God sent Jacob's descendants into Egypt so
that they could not become idolaters. After 400 years and just before the
exodus from Egypt, God called them Israelites to differentiate them from the
other Hebrews (Ishmaelites, Edomites, Moabites and Ammonites) in the
neighbourhood.
Exo 9:7a Then
Pharaoh sent, and indeed, not even one of the livestock of the Israelites was
dead.
